For me it's mainly conditioning...getting the endurance that you need for your sport.
So I do basketball...when I am "in season" I do EDT.
The load is definitely lighter (I'd say 80% of your top), reps are lower (between 1-4), sets are a LOT! And your rest between sets are short.
IMO, this builds endurance and at the same time "maintain" your strength.
But from the name itself you should be able to gain even when you increase your endurance.
EDT = Escalating Density --> so I am assuming that your progress in terms of load when doing EDT.

It is a "generic" version of Soviet strength and conditioning. If done properly, it's the best "all-around" program in existence. My guess is that the top strength coaches in the world have their version, as I have mine. I've had mine for over 10 years now and only now do I have the capabilities to do the data-gathering using the data of over 1000 gym members to make a "perfect system" even better. You can only get so far using experience and instinct. At some point, you need hard statistical data to add precision to something that is already deadly-accurate. This is what separates gold from silver.
